3 Simple Ways To Extend Partition In Windows

Sometimes extend partition can be hell if not done the correct way. I am going to explain the best way to doing that without having your computer erase all your data after system OS installation by disabled manually or using any disk resize partition software. First things first, 1GB = 1024MB. Do backup your data before extending the disk partition in disk management system.

Extend Partition In Windows | Resize Windows System Driver Partition

Extend Partition Using Windows Built-In Tools

a) In your windows OS (XP, 7, 8, 8.1, 10) you are using, go to create and format hard disk extend partition wizard. Access this Windows tool by going to the start key of your windows XP and windows 7 or utilizing the search utility in Windows 8.1. The type “create and format hard disk partition”. Choose it and open it.

b) Take a look at your disk and see the disks you want to resize. Using built in Windows tools in any windows 8.1 and windows 7, you can only extend partition if the unallocated size you want to use is located to the right of that partition.

c) Shrinking a bigger partition
Choose a drive that has much unused space. Right click on it and select “shrink volume”. A dialog box appears as Windows is querying the available space that you can shrink. Using the conversion factor for GB to MB, enter the size you would like to shrink and click “shrink”. Wait for some time and an unallocated space in black will appear.

d) Extending your partition
Obviously, you would want to extend partition of all the unallocated space. Choose the drive to the left of unallocated partition and click “Extend volume”. A dialog box appears. Ensure size to extend equals  unallocated space. Click extend. After some time you will have your partition fully extended.

Extend Partition Using EaseUS Drive Partition Software

This is a third party software that comes in 2 packs, a free home edition and a paid professional edition.

a) Open your EaseUS partition tool.

b) You will see a list of the disks listed there. Select the disk you want to extend, right click it and choose move/resize partition in windows 7 and windows 8.1.

c) Enter the number in mbs to resize to increase partition size of windows and click OK.

d) You will find that you are able to extend your partition even if the unallocated is on any side.
An advantage of third party Extend Partition software when compared to the Windows tool.

Extend Partition Using G-parted Free Partition Software

a) Boot your computer from a g-parted live CD which is one of the windows disk partition software tool.

b) After your computer boots, you will see a drop down menu and all your disks as they are.

c) Right click your disk to extend, (assuming you have unallocated space), and choose move/resize to Expand Volume of Windows Partition.

d) Enter the size to resize in the text box that appears or just drag to your preferred size.

e) Wait for some minutes for the process to complete.

f) Boot your computer with the live disk removed and if it just shows some message without completely booting to your Windows OS, do not freak out.

g) Using a live disk, do repair your computer

I recommend trying out g-parted when other methods have failed. Feel free to try out and use your best method. Try this option when other methods have failed when command line on linux(mac) OS system which is a best size extend primary partition for windows 8.1, 7 and MAC systems.
